Bright side of boredom-f2fa176c

How to explore the bright side of boredom

When we think of all the times we’ve been bored we often remember those experiences as negative – time slows down, we feel listless, unsatisfied, frustrated. But is boredom really that bad? Or are we just not making enough of the opportunities a boring spell can offer? Here are some of the ways in which we can embrace boredom and turn it into something more positive.
1. A bored moment is the perfect time to daydream. Daydreaming not only helps your mind take a much-needed rest from thinking about the daily nitty gritty it also encourages creativity. A brain that is given a bit of space to fantasize and escape to another place can wander into some very inspiring and creative territory, so use the opportunity when you can.
2. In modern life, we’re almost constantly bombarded with information. We can also access pretty much everything we want almost instantly. Learning to embrace ‘boredom’, step back and exercise a bit of restraint to help our brains get out of the habit of instant gratification can help us improve our self-control which can be useful in all areas of life.
3. Boredom is ironically often the result of overwhelm. We might think we don’t have anything to do, when in fact our mind is actually signalling to us to that it needs to disengage from the sensory overload. Developing the ability to sink into the boredom rather than resist it can be good for our overall mental health.
4. On the other hand, boredom can also be the catalyst for taking action and getting ourselves out of a rut. If embracing the boredom isn’t working for you, you can always flip it on its head and use it as a motivating factor to push you to achieve things you’ve always wanted to.
So, next time you find yourself slipping into a fog of malaise, why not try a new response and see what happens?

Ceredigion Coast Path-5cace79a

Discover the Ceredigion coast path

While the world-famous Pembrokeshire Coast Path might get the lion’s share of headlines when it comes to the best walking routes in the world, did you know that the Ceredigion Coast Path is equally spectacular? This central section of the 870-mile-long Wales Coast Path follows the gentle curve of Cardigan Bay, with magnificent views as far as Snowdonia and the Llyn Peninsula to the north and Cardigan Island to the south.
Along the trail, the terrain alternates between soaring cliffs and pebbled beaches, quaint coastal villages and wide, sweeping estuaries.
You’re also likely to see plenty of our local wildlife, both on land and out at sea. Cardigan Bay is famous for its pods of dolphins that play in the surf and often follow local boats. The coast is also home to thousands of sea birds, red kites, otters and seals. Clinging to cliff tops and doted throughout meadows you’ll also find heathers, orchids, pink thrift and wild campion growing in abundance.
Some intrepid walkers attempt the path in one go, or as part of an attempt on the entire Wales Coast Path. However, many people simply choose a section that’s walkable in few hours. You can find maps of each section on the Wales Coast Path website. There are also several bus services that serve this section of coast, namely the Cardi Bach bus between Cardigan and Newquay and the Traws Cymru T5 service between Cardigan and Aberystwyth. Happy exploring!
