Can y Coed: A unique symphony from the ancient rainforests of Wales

Sound artist Cheryl Beer, who we featured in Issue 13 of Life Seeker Newspaper for her work in bringing nature walks into care homes during lockdown, is launching her unique Can y Coed symphony at the National Botanic Garden of Wales this Summer.
Cheryl Beer has spent a year exploring Wales’s ancient rainforests, using specialist sound equipment to listen to the rhythms within the trees, ferns and moss. Converting these biorhythms into music, Cheryl has created a symphony that not only helps people connect with nature on a new level, but also highlights the importance of preserving these vital environments. You can even visit the trees that took part, and a Sound Walk will be installed at Coed Felenrhyd rainforest.
To find out more about the virtual launch and Can y Coed installations tours around the UK, visit the Song of the Trees web page or Cheryl’s Facebook page

Join the hunt for hidden treasures in Ceredigion

If you’re out and about in Ceredigion this summer, keep your eyes peeled or you might just miss some secret messages hidden here and there around the county. A group called Ceredigion Rocks are encouraging people to leave decorative stones around the coast and countryside to add a little happiness to someone’s day. All you have to do is brighten up a rock with permanent pens or acrylic paint, write a cheery message on the back, give it a coat of something weatherproof and pop it in a favourite spot for someone to find.
Whenever you hide or find one of these little treasures, simply take a photo and share it on the Ceredigion Rocks Facebook page!

Haverfordwest Riverside Gallery exhibitions showcase people and place

Following the reopening of Haverfordwest library in September 2021, the riverside gallery is hosting two exhibitions for the public, thanks to the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth.

The People: photographs from the national collection exhibition focuses on the unique art of documentary photography. These images capture the beauty, humour, joy, despair and determination of human spirit.  Whether they are images of normal people going about their everyday lives, or an account of an important historical event, each photograph is a snapshot in time, preserved for future generations. The Pembrokeshire: Past and Present exhibition, details the county’s rich history, displaying iconic works by artists and writers such as Gwen and Augustus John, Waldo Williams, Claudia Williams and Graham Sutherland.

Both exhibitions will run until 23 April 2022, as part of the ongoing partnership between Pembrokeshire County Council and The National Library of Wales at Glan-yr-afon/The Riverside.
