Make memories with the Megan Starr Foundation

The Megan Starr Foundation have launched their make a memory keepsake craft classes and all are welcome. The idea behind the craft classes is to create a memory keepsake of a loved one using something that belonged to them. This may be an old jumper or anything that can be added to the crafted item to make that memory long lasting. No sewing skills needed! Seamstresses will be lending their skills to help with the project.

The craft classes are part of the foundation’s intergenerational project and will focus on making a memory keepsake cushion, encouraging old and young to come together. There is also the option to request a keepsake cushion to be made for you or someone else.

Organisers say:

“The cushions make such a powerful and moving impact and can also be used for people living with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, or other debilitating illnesses.  The collage of different garments can help with memory recall, and comfort loved ones in times of need”.

Men’s Talking Circle launches at Haverhub

Haverhub in Haverfordwest is proud to host the launch of a new men’s talking circle. The community hub which launched in 2021 has hosted many events to support the local area such as a wellbeing weekend, art exhibitions, weekly exercise and craft classes. The Men’s talking circle is the latest addition to their community classes.

The group is run by Men2Menorg who say the circles are a safe and confidential space for the men to talk and listen to others, free from advice and judgement. They advertise the sessions as a place to learn from each other as compassionate caring men and emphasise it’s not a therapy or share-all session.

Men aged 18+ are welcome to attend the group which is free will run every Wednesday 4-6pm in the corner room of Haverhub.

Local Libraries Capture ‘Life in Lockdown’

With the word ‘lockdown’ now part of our daily vocabulary, it’s hard to believe that only two years ago it had little or no meaning to many of us. For lots it may be a time we’d rather forget but Carmarthenshire libraries are keen to capture what life in lockdown was like for local residents.
