Photo competition launches to celebrate community connections

CADR (Centre for ageing and dementia research) has launched a photo competition to align with global Intergenerational week 2022to promote the connections and friendships made across the generations. The competition is themed Moments in Time; Stronger Together and is a collaboration with the Welsh Cross party group (CPG). It aims to share their message of the importance of communities connecting – where age is not a barrier for building new and positive connections within the community. The winning photographs will be proudly displayed as part of a National Exhibition starting at the Senedd and touring across the seven Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales.
Entrants are invited to submit photos which demonstrate these connections and relationships that are built outside of the family circle, along with a short description. Well being Wednesdays with Limelight School for Performing Arts

Well being Wednesdays with Limelight School for Performing Arts
Angharad Sanders from Limelight School of Performing Arts has introduced well being Wednesdays as part of the weekly updates on the activities of the school and its participants. The aim of the weekly Facebook videos and posts are to build confidence in young people and give advice and guidance on anything that aspiring performers would like to know. Angharad is a singing teacher, voice coach and musician, having worked in the West End as a Musical Director on touring productions such as Madagascar the musical. Her passion for music and singing led her to open Limelight School for Performing Arts as well as to set up Torch Voices community Choir at the Torch Theatre in Milford Haven. Her passion for supporting well being and positive living within her students as well as anyone she works with is clear. ‘It’s about supporting people and lifting them up.’

The benefits of cold water immersion on mental health

Pembrokeshire based Celtic Timber adapted their barrels with taps for drainage, lift-off lids for access and seats for comfort and started selling them. However, when interacting with customers, it became clear that a large and growing section of their customer base was more interested in the mental health benefits of cold water immersion.

New lease of life for unwanted items

Thanks to new scheme – ETO, local people can donate unwanted items to NEW donation stations at recycling centres across Carmarthenshire, ready to be repaired and re-used. With a wide range of items welcomed, the project is hoping to reduce waste of household items that are simply too good to throw away. As well as donating unwanted items, you can also shop more sustainably and buy repaired and re-purposed items from a NEW ETO shop now open in Llanelli Town Centre. Another ETO shop is also planned to open at Nantycaws soon…

Cloudwatching-1143e40b

Is it time to get your head in the clouds?

Let’s face it, we don’t usually have a shortage of clouds above us here in West Wales, but have you ever taken the time to look at them more closely? In fact, cloud watching can be a really effective mindfulness and relaxation exercise. Whether you’re busy finding animal shapes as the clouds morph overhead or simply watching fluffy, white wisps lazily drifting across the sky, following their slow fluid movements is a great way to concentrate your attention and calm your mind.
It’s also a fun activity to share with the kids over the Easter holidays – especially if you’re trying to help them focus and relax. So, the next time you’re feeling stressed, why not look up, lie back and indulge in a sneaky spot of cloud watching? It might be just what the doctor ordered.
