A study of 2,000 adults commissioned by the Mental Health Foundation has found that the average adult will say “I’m fine” 14 times a week, though just 19% really mean it.
This isn’t surprising as I’m sure most of us can relate to the scenario. Does the person asking how we are actually mean it? Or is it another one of our strange society-driven habits to fill white space? Is it just an alternative method of saying ‘hi’?
All of the above I’d say (for everyday situations) So if and when we choose to share our true feelings, we select our listener carefully and it’s this that is the most concerning…not all of us have that listener to rely on.
