Jeanette and I have now been retired (well almost) for a year and we love the opportunities we have for getting out and about in this amazing county. Jeanette has lived here all her life and for me it’s eleven years but we still uncover hidden gems.
We have a nervous dog (Charlie) so we’re always looking to get off the beaten track with her and if we can combine any activity with a stop at a decent cafe we’re chuffed!
West Wales is so varied it allows us to play in all weathers, from windswept coasts around Marloes, hidden woodlands and valleys and the wonderful open ridge of The Preselis. We’ve kayaks and bikes and two legs each that take us out and about and we try very hard to be active everyday!
If we’re not out with our dog Charlie, we try and encourage like minded friends to join us, be it out on the river, dining out, dancing, walking footie, you name it!
This week we did a first… we signed up for the seniors season ticket at Picton Castle, took the dog round the glorious gardens full of spring colour then headed to Maria’s cafe for our just desserts!
It works out at less than 50p a week and it will definitely be a regular event in our shenanigans!
Food drew us to Freshwater West yesterday as the fantastic Cafe Mor is now open. What better way to top off a lovely beach walk than super fresh seafood cooked with a view to die for.
House special was fresh mackerel and at £6.50 what a bargain for a lunch!
With the weather warming we’re hoping to launch the kayaks on the Cleddau and explore some of the pills we’ve not yet touched. Pembroke Dock to Pembroke is on the list but watch this space and see where our paddles and the tides take us!!
