Justine Dodd – Cariad Glass

I'm Justine, co-owner (with my husband Chris) of Cariad Glass in Llandysul, Ceredigion - we have had a studio here since 2009!

Tell us about you, your business and where you operate in West Wales?

I’m Justine, co-owner (with my husband Chris) of Cariad Glass in Llandysul, Ceredigion – we have had a studio here since 2009!

What products and services do you provide and how can Seekers access them?

We specialise in commissions large and small, restoration and tuition as well as taking our work across West Wales to lots of different exhibitions and galleries. We have a website, Facebook/Instagram pages (which are always full of up to date studio ‘happenings’) and the studio is open to the public, so you can see us a work! Best way to get in touch is via phone or email, and it’s always best to check that we are actually here in the studio before travelling any distance to visit us!

Our work can be purchased directly from us here, or via our online Stained Glass Emporium on the website – classes run March-October and can also be booked online…but hurry, they sell out FAST! We also have exhibitions listed on our Facebook events page, or give us a call to see where we’ll be next. Commission and restorations are discussed on an individual basis, either by telephone, email of appointment here in the studio.

How can Seekers benefit from what you do?

Taking part in a class is a great way to learn a brand new skill, to be immersed in a wonderful heritage craft, and to experience a fulfilling, productive day in a small, intimate group of fellow pupils.

What do you love about the work you do?

Best things about our work are too many to mention, but here are a few!

1. Spending the day with my best friend!

2. Creating wonderful pieces that will be loved and cherished for years to come

3. Satisfaction seeing the scribbled idea come to fruition as a full created design.

4. The vibrancy, colours and textures of the glass will never, ever get boring!

5. The joy of teaching people our skills, and seeing their absolute delight and joy at what they have created!

How did you end up in your vocation?

Chris started his stained glass journey over 17 years ago when our middle son Ben was born…what started as a hobby became a passion and when we moved to Wales 15 years ago, we knew we wanted it to become our business. I joined 4 years ago to work with Chris full time after a varied career in sales, marketing, Disneyland Paris (yup) and a community television studio where Chris and I first met!
