Gwernllwyn care home in Cross Hands, Carmarthenshire have launched a pen pal project, and are seeking people to join up and communicate with its residents. The project aims to team up the residents of the care home with members of the community, particularly children, to provide them a connection to the outside word at a time when they may need it most.
“We are looking for people to write a letter or a postcard to our lovely residents to help brighten their day! We would love to have drawings and letters from children also.”
Gwernllwyn care home is a retired and assisted living facility. Staff are keen to promote a positive experience for their residents and they regularly post positive quotes and updates on their social media pages. Their references to the importance of family and spreading love and kindness underpins their values.
Residents are able to take part in activities, should they wish (the care home has an activities coordinator to ensure residents are involved in activities suitable to them), such as gardening, cooking, jigsaws and arts and crafts, as well as visiting other attractions when circumstances allow.
Some of the events they have held in the past include: a male voice choir, afternoon tea and a Christmas jumper day.
Anyone who would like to join the pen pal project at Gwernllwyn care home are asked to write to the following address –

your penpal project seems ok. i used to write to people in usa along time ago. i have worked all my life 35 years. i am now retired aged 60. i have many stories to tell. i have worked for the MOD thru out with only 2 jobs. i am an arm forces veteran as is my father. i have visited hong kong, cyprus, germany, falklands vet. i speak a smattering of different languages. i think i would like to write to people telling jokes, recounting my travels. some people dont travel but i have. everyone has 15 minutes of fame they can recount. mine is fishguard invasion. i was the french man with ivon fox aka jemina nicholas in 1997 unveiling the bi centenial stone, we featured on blue peter. not sure how to proceed, but cant take on too much.
