Tuk Tuk Time are a small family run business operating in and around the South Pembrokeshire Coast. The company specialises in tours, weddings, events and occasions with a small taxi service operational in between using either their little authentic three wheeled vehicles from India or larger tuk tuks from Thailand.

The business was formed in 2019 by Tony and Lorraine Niederlag and is the first venture of its kind in Pembrokeshire. Originally, they were used to transport people from The Buttles holiday park in Begelly to the nearby beaches and tourist spots, but are now available for hire throughout Pembrokeshire.

The Tuk Tuks, or ‘three wheeled wonders’ as the business call them, are fully licensed Hackney carriages and can be hailed when out and about just like a normal taxi. They seat two people in the little tuk tuks or six people in the larger tuk tuks.  They have been made comfortable with cushions and even rain covers for when the weather turns bad.

The company have 4 fully restored and decorated Tuk Tuks, lovingly named  Hattie, Bumble, Enfys and Morgan.  The tuk tuks are tended to by co-founders Tony and Lorraine Niederlag, and Paul and Wendy Jones.

So, what made Tony and Lorraine want to bring Tuk Tuks to Pembrokeshire?

Lorraine says,

“We went on a tuk tuk tour in Lisbon and decided the experience was too good not to be replicated in Pembrokeshire.”

The novelty of being transported in such a cute vehicle with great vision for all is one of the reasons for their success.  Experienced and outstanding chauffeurs is another.

Tours usually concentrate on coastal views – Amroth, Wiseman’s Bridge, Coppet Hall, Saundersfoot, Tenby, Skrinkle and Manorbier though there’s usually time to enjoy a small woodland journey.

Top speed of the four-stroke engine little tuk tuks is 45 mph but far less up the steep hills.  Engines are 200cc for the little tuk tuks and 650cc for the larger tuk tuks, one is called Morgan and they’re deciding on the name for the other.

Lorraine remarked,

“Sightseeing tours, cocktail tours and picnic tours are extremely popular. It’s so rewarding to bring such a happy experience to so many.”

They say that the response has been ‘phenomenal’ with so many stand out moments, which include being featured on ITV news Wales as well as taking clients out for a tour who had not left their home for over a year due to Covid.

They are also very conscious of their carbon footprint, being keen to point out that the Tuk Tuks have a low impact on the environment.

“You’ll be glad to hear that although the tuk tuks run on petrol – the emissions are so low as to be negligible. We’re very proud that they’ve been classified as zero emission vehicles.”

The Tuk Tuks are available for a number of tours which take the rider around scenic spots in Pembrokeshire, starting in Tenby or Saundersfoot. There’s The Whole Shebang, exploring all of the routes along the coast from Tenby to Lydtep, Manorbier and Shrinkle. Riders can book onto the seafront special, exploring Amroth, Wisemans Bridge and Coppet Hall.

Or, there is the mystery tour which takes riders on an unknown tour of the area, full of surprises and breathtaking views. They also now offer Breakfast Tours (where your pastries can be heated on the little engine of the tuk tuk) and Cocktail Tours to be pre booked through their website.

They can also be hired for events such as weddings, proms, romantic breaks and birthdays, adding a special twist to any occasion. They say 

“tuk tuks are a unique and fun way to get around. We love them and so will you.”

The use of their Tuk Tuks has expanded beyond tours, taxi and family events. 

More recently Tuk Tuk Time have also announced that they have been seeking a dog ambassador to promote the fact that dogs are welcome on their tuk tuks.

“Despite our dog-friendly tour posts, we still often receive enquiries asking us if it’s possible for the dog to come along on the tuk tuk tour. We need to find a way to make sure everyone knows it’s ‘all aboard’ with Tuk Tuk Time and so we began looking for a Tuk Tuk Time dog Ambassador”

The response was positive and they have since appointed a number of dog ambassadors in many different categories, such as large, medium and miniature class dog. These winning canines will promote the dog friendly tuk tuks and each receive a limited edition Tuk Tuk Time neckerchief.

When asked how she feels Tuk Tuk time has contributed to the well being of the community and beyond, Lorraine said 

“A smile uses more muscles than a frown and we only ever see smiles from those who’ve been in a tuk tuk.”

She also adds , 

“They are available to all. Anyone can use a tuk tuk providing mobility permits.”

Going forward Lorraine says they would love to bring more Tuk Tuks to Pembrokeshire for more amazing experiences.

Tuk Tuk Time have just launched their vouchers in time for Christmas, which can be used against tours, taxi rides or the breakfast/cocktail packages.
