Maysoon Sayid - Cerebal Palsy - Ted Talk

Actress, stand-up comic and philanthropist advocates disability through hilarious Ted Talk

Arab-American Maysoon Zayid shared her story with the world in 2013 through a hilarious and thought provoking Ted Talk about her journey through life with cerebral palsy.

Her introduction, “I have cerebral palsy. I shake all the time, I’m like Shakira meets Muhammad Ali.” sets the scene for how she’ll continue to both make fun of her disability plus be an advocate for people with disabilities worldwide.

Her audience remains fixated in between belly laughing for the full 14 minutes, in awe of how Maysoon perceives life and fits into the ‘normality’ around her.

“My parents reinforced this notion that I could do anything, that no dream was impossible” states Maysoon, which leads her to expand on her journey into acting and comedy.

She reminisces about learning to walk as a child and later shares, “One miracle cure we did find was yoga. Before I did yoga, I was a stand-up comedian who couldn’t stand up”.
