Last weekend saw the Grand Opening of Pembrokeshire’s newest community venue, Haverhub, where individuals, organisations, food and music artists came together for a three day celebration inside the towns former grade II listed post office building.
Six years in the making, Haverhub is the stunning result of a community regeneration project, headed up by founder Gitti Coats and funded by Welsh Government, Pembrokeshire County Council and other funding bodies.
Activities during the event included a community services fayre, locally sourced catering from Café Medina and The Box by Ben Gobbi, live music from Honey Fungus, Bella Voce, David Pepper, Llewellin Duo, Filthy Lucre, DJ Onez, DJ Uncle Funk, La Loba and Sky Barkers, art exhibitions from Richard Blacklaw-Jones and Lloyd the Graffiti plus live radio broadcast and interviews with the team from Pure West Radio.

The opening weekend marks the beginning of a vibrant and inclusive social space, where the community can gather, learn and share skills, be entertained, and work together to shape the future of this public service that will support the community for years to come.

The newly restored building was officially opened by the Sheriff of Haverfordwest and endorsed by patron Jerome Flynn, whom delivered inspiring speeches on opening day.

Haverhub now acts as the largest and most accessible community venue in Haverfordwest with spaces catering for a variety of needs such as meetings, exhibitions, classes and large scale events. It comprises the Old Post Office Foyer/main reception area, a beautifully light and spacious Sorting Office to comfortably seat up to 150 people (with a maximum capacity of 390), the Corner Room – an elegant and intimate space with a seating capacity of up to 38, the Bar (90 people standing) and the largest space to be restored at a later date, the Depot (capacity of 550) that can be booked on its own or alongside the Bar area.

Haverhub has also been chosen by the Welsh government as a pilot site for remote working which will see the use of first floor offices later in 2021.
The Haverhub website states they are,
“a vibrant and creative social enterprise rekindling our town. A collaborative experience where everyone counts.”

Following our experience at the first event since re-launch, we couldn’t agree more and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for this exciting new venture.
Tickets are now on sale for various events over the summer including live gigs (Lo-Fi DJ event, Reggae in the yard, Back to Bassix, Dub Carnvial), print making workshops and their inaugural Wellbeing Weekend.
We also hear Zumba and yoga classes are already booked in with beading classes and etching to follow.
