Trip to Ferryside - Walk19 - Cheryl Beer

A virtual journey to Ferryside

Experience the wonderful collaboration between Walk 19 Lead Artist, Cheryl Beer & Fine Artist Dorothy Morris as they take us on a journey to Ferryside, the favourite walk of older people living at Towy Castle Care Home.
This film is an extension to the development of a series created and hosted by Sound Memories radio, a dementia friendly life story & nature project working closely with older people, their families, carers & communities.

“We create client led memory resources, celebrating life & inspiring a more connected sense of Self. Older people have said that they would feel more empowered if they were still able to help each other (Blood : 2013). At Sound Memories, we enable older people to create sound & story resources that improve the quality of their life & that they then share as resources to help others.

In response to Covid 19, we contacted Dementia Care Homes & local Communities across South & South West Wales, to talk with older people about their favourite walks. We followed in their footsteps, collating audio sound banks of the places they missed the most. We edited these into a beautiful collection of Nature Narratives & digitally streamed them back into the care homes, enabling older people to connect with a deeper sense of identity through the places they love.”
