Plant Dewi baby bundle project - Pembrokeshire - Wales

Baby Bundle project brings joy to new parents

The birth of a new baby should be a joyful occasion, yet for many, it comes with financial and logistical challenges. Plant Dewi vow to help new parents in need of support, with their baby bundle project.

The Plant Dewi Baby Bundle Bank supports parents across Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion, providing essential resources and equipment to vulnerable families with children up to the age of 12 months.

The project is donation based and items can be new or good quality second hand. In previous years donations have been welcomed from local church groups (including St Mary’s Mother’s Union of Tenby), individuals and families no longer in need of clothing and toys.

Resources range from children’s clothing, nappies and toiletries to sanitary products and breast pads. They also have a stock of equipment such as Moses baskets, cots, prams and baby baths.

Plant Dewi is a project of the St David’s Diocesan Council for Social Responsibility whose mission is to nurture families and strengthen communities in the diocese of St Davids in South West Wales and beyond. They empower families to bring about positive changes in their lives, giving them hope and a sense of belonging through five areas of work:

  1. Family centres
  2. Families together groups
  3. Young parents’ groups
  4. Dads groups  – we wrote about this project here.
  5. Baby bundle project– providing baby packs to new and expectant parents who are facing financial hardship.

Earlier this year, Plant Dewi won the community award through Weston Charity Awards for their work across the three counties.

The baby bundle project has supported families by giving out over 500 bundles since Nov 2016.

Project worker, Samantha Duggan says,

“Referrers have told us that they have handed over packs and seen the worry disappear from Mother’s faces and parents overwhelmed by the generosity of the project.  One Mum said ‘I was dreading my little one coming into the world as I didn’t have everything that I needed for him. Having this bundle has lifted my spirits and I’m really looking forward to meeting my little boy. It’s taken the stress and worry away’.”

Samantha adds,

“If you work with or are aware of a family that would benefit from the service, please do not hesitate to get in touch. As an organisation we have employees in the three counties therefore delivery and collection can be easily arranged.”

If you require any further information or know of a family that would benefit from the project please contact Sam on 074839 66168 or email bbbplantdewi@plantdewi.co.uk
