If you’re dealing with dementia or memory challenges, or care for someone else who does, Ty Golau in Kidwelly and Llanelli offer weekly reminiscence sessions, complete with tea, cake and a very warm welcome.
Founded and run by former occupational therapist Janet Lewis, the Ty Golau experience is a lively combination of quizzes, singing, themed events and plenty of fun and laughter, all designed to stimulate memories and boost wellbeing.
Janet says:
“Something like this is a lifeline for many people in the community. It gives the person with dementia a safe space to meet new people and have fun and the carers can either join in, or use the opportunity to take a much-needed break if they want to, safe in the knowledge that their loved one is in good hands.
We absolutely love what we do. To get the responses we do and see the service users gaining so much from the sessions makes all the effort worthwhile.”
The group has gone from strength to strength in recent years, expanding its services in Llanelli due to popular demand. And while the weekly sessions haven’t been held over the past few months due to Coronavirus, they will be starting up again as soon as it’s safe to do so.
