Coastal cafe with wellness at it's core

The coastal cafe with good food, wellness and simple living at its core

Whilst exploring this beautiful county, one of our favourite rituals  is to seek out interesting spaces. To gather with friends and family, to drink good coffee, to eat good food, to spend time dreaming or to simply catch up with the practicalities of life.

And once we’ve found that space, one that makes us feel cosy from the inside out, we find the time to go back, to relive the things that make us feel good.

In doing this, we are rewarding ourselves a tiny treat, which has a subconscious effect on our wellbeing. Taking time out, connecting with others and nourishing our insides is scientifically proven to boost our mental health.

If you’ve ever been ‘dragged’ out for coffee and a chat by a friend when you’re not feeling in the mood, think back to how positive and re-energised you felt afterwards.

It’s official, as humans, we NEED to treat ourselves to survive contently.

“One of the secrets of a happy life is continuous small treats”

(Iris Murdoch, The Sea, the Sea)

So, if you live in or are visiting St Davids in the near future, make a beeline for The Meadow, a coastal café inspiring happiness through simple, wholesome food, great coffee and social gatherings.

Set in a quirky stone building in the heart of St Davids, The Meadow offers a rustic outdoor social space plus two floors of shabby chic interior for families, groups of friends, walkers and cyclists to enjoy.

There are signs of a lovingly crafted business everywhere, beautifully hand written plaques, a tasteful menu to cater for all, a bookshelf promoting sustainable living and positive thinking, pretty flowers on the tables and more.

Wholesome grub

The highlight of visiting The Meadow is their locally sourced food, inclusive of vegan and gluten free options, ranging from nourishing drinks and snacks; barista coffee, chai and turmeric latte,  banana bread with homemade peanut butter, through to hearty breakfasts; avocado on sourdough, smoked mackerel and cockles on a lavabread oatcake and lunches; including Welsh lamb cawl, rare breed sausages, and a mushroom/black bean/sweet potato vegan burger.  Yum! (view the full menu here)

A holistic approach to wellness

What’s unique about The Meadow is that is isn’t solely a cafe, it’s a multi-purpose space to spend time on yourself and with others, to think about the bigger picture in terms of your personal health and happiness.

In addition to wholesome food and drink, they produce naturally made products such as coffee soap & turmeric blend, plus host film nights and wellbeing/creative workshops.

Founders Em and Nick have the passion and experience to inspire you to live a happy and healthy life.

Interestingly, they led quite different careers in finance and television before moving to St Davids. Before The Meadow, they successfully ran the Coffee Camper at festivals and sporting events, The Bakehouse at TYF in St Davids and alongside, Nick trained in personal fitness and wellbeing.

More recently, they followed their hearts to dedicate their time to something that is making a difference to the wellbeing of our community, and the planet.

“Living in St Davids is about reconnection with nature, being part of a small community and enjoying the simple things”

(Em and Nick)

Hear what they have to say about their mission in this short video:

Book some 'me time' at The Meadow in March

Grab a seat (plus free popcorn!) at the next film night

A unique cinematic and musical collaboration between the Australian Chamber Orchestra, BAFTA-nominated director Jennifer Peedom and narrated by Academy award winner William Dafoe.

Mountain is a dazzling exploration of our obsession with mountains. Only three centuries ago, climbing a mountain would have been considered close to lunacy. The idea scarcely existed that wild landscapes might hold any sort of attraction. Peaks were places of peril, not beauty. Why, then, are we now drawn to mountains in our millions? Mountain shows us the spellbinding force of high places and their ongoing power to shape our lives and our dreams.

Caring for you and our planet

Encouragingly, The Meadow are one of few hospitality businesses to proactively share their business philosophy, including a detailed sustainability policy outlining how their business impacts society and the environment along their food chain.

If you are passionate about spending your spare time alongside people that mimic your values and ethics or simply just love a good coffee, I’m sure Em, Nick and team will be happy to meet you.

The Meadow is one of my favourite stops after a walk from Caerfai to St Nons and into St Davids. A morning/afternoon/evening I highly recommend .
