Medical Herbalists make use of plants whose traditional uses are backed up by modern scientific research and clinical trials.
Herbalists take a holistic approach to illness, treating the underlying cause of disease rather than just the symptoms. They are able to prescribe herbal remedies to be used alongside other medication and treatments.
Herbal Medicine is suitable for people of any age, including children, who respond especially well to the gentle actions of herbs. Each patient is treated as an individual – a Medical Herbalist recognises that no two patients are the same.
It is more important to know what sort of person has a disease than to know what sort of disease a person has – (Hippocrates)
What happens during a consultation?
During your first visit you will be asked lots of questions!
The questions will be about your current medical condition, or the symptoms that have brought you to see a herbalist. Also questions about your general health and well-being including your diet and lifestyle and medical history.
If necessary, and with your agreement, a physical exam will be carried out with which you are likely to be familiar with such as taking your blood pressure, listening to your heart or lungs, urine analysis or even interpretation of any medical results you may have already received from your GP or Consultant.
This all helps to build up a full picture of you as a person to ensure that any treatment and guidance is tailored to you, your lifestyle and your unique requirements.
Any herbal medicine given could be in the form of tablets, teas, creams, tinctures and we will discuss options together. The length of treatment varies from patient to patient and we will decide a treatment plan together at the end of the session.
Appointments are available in Leona’s main clinic in Milford Haven, plus Narberth, St Davids and Haverfordwest.
